For anyone unfamilar with these keeled dinghies, they were designed by the legendary Uffa Fox and are one of the world's most popular boats for racing series, raced all over the UK (including Holy Loch and Loch Lomond). They go like stink but with the stability advantages of a keel boat. Widely regarded as one of the most enjoyable boats around to sail ("the most fun you can have with a keel on"). Replacements parts are also surprisingly cheap. "Impala" is in VGC for the year, with no sign of hull problems and little work needing done to get her racing. The sails haven't seen much use and are in decent condition, with comparatively minor wear at wear points. To get her fully sailing she needs: * 2 X Shrouds (£ each last time I looked). * 1 X Connector for the mainsail uphaul (should be around £20) The plywood coaming was also removed after rotting at the edges. Simple and cheap fix (ply could be used again, but personally I'd use UPVC skirting or cut perspex sheet glued into the slots). A repair to the rudder could do with repainting. Mast and rigging are in VGC. The gimbal for the main sheet only uses one of its two available pulleys as currently set up. If I was keeping the boat I'd either get a 2nd-hand single-pulley gimbal or a re-rig the sheets to the rear deck to make use of both pulleys and give lower-geared sheeting as on modern F15s. I'd also re-rig the control lines so that they're accessible further aft (currently they're operated from the mast foot). Hull is smooth, but she will need antifoul for the season. 420 sailing boat dinghy project with trailer and launching trolley

For sale is my old 420 sailing dinghy. This boat is a small project but comes with sails, trailer and launching trolley. It was in use a couple of seasons ago, but has not been used since and hence it looks rather 'the worse for wear'. I have not used the trailer on the road, and imagine it would need a service before this would be recommended, so the boat is for collection. However this is a very cheap, straightforward project for somebody to get on the water, as a good clean up will be the main thing needed initially! I'm keen to pass it on to someone who will get use out of it though. The whole package is yours for £300 ono. The boat is located at Killyleagh. This is a boat trailer which is now surplus to my requirements. It carried my 14 ft boat but might take a bit bigger boat. It is ten feet from the jockey wheel to the axle. It comes with traailer board and winch which is not attached. It has a locking hitch and there is a spare wheel but the tyre would need to be put on it. I used it to tow my 14ft two berth saing boat from Selsey to Glasgow a round trip of about 900 miles. Towed several times after that with no problems. I have just given it a wire brush with a drill and a fresh coat of paint. It is near Glasgow city centre and I could deliver it for free up to ten miles as long as it was all paid for first. She was built my myself and my build-partner at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis. Design: Gil Smith South Bay Catboat. Construction: Cold-moulded hull. 2x 3mm layers Marine Plywood sandwiched between 3mm veneers of Khaya Mahogany. Planking thickness: 12mm. Sheathed with Xynole for abrasion resistance and strength. Solid Oak centreline structure. A very strong boat built for longevity. Western Red Ceder planked decks and laminated Mahogany transom. Spars are made from Sitka Spruce for lightweight and strength. General: 'Lucille' is an ideal short-term project for someone who has the time and tools to finish her. She can be sailed or sold for a much higher value than listed here. She comes with: her newly-made mainsail, most of the of the wood, fittings, turning blocks and fastenings required to finish her, and her spars (mast, boom, and gaff) are all shaped and varnished. She also comes with a brand new trailer with flushing kit. The majority of the fittings are bronze, many of which have been custom-made for 'Lucille', and she has been built with the utmost care and attention to detail. She is a beautiful boat and needs a new owner to finish her and get her on the water. The reason I am selling Lucille is because I have finished the course and unfortunately no longer have the time to do the required work to get her completed.
