Welcome to Back To Basic Dog Training ! My name is Miriam Finn and I am a qualified animal behaviourist and trainer who has worked with dogs and other species apart from dogs over the last 10 years or so. I have many different ways of helping you to understand your dog without the need for long scientific words and expensive new equipment. I help with basic training, puppy pep talks and more difficult behavioural issues. I use simple to understand positive reward methods which are the gentlest and most effective way of teaching your dog to un-learn old or nuisance behaviours and replace them with new behaviours that are more appropriate. My methods are suitable for dogs of all ages. We work at your pace and with the ability of your dog and in a step by step fashion. Dogs find it very difficult to multitask so less is always more. I only do one to one sessions as I feel this is a much easier way for both owners and pets to learn. Having an audience can be off putting. I work with the whole family and look at every aspect of your dog's life from early upbringing to diet to toys & equipment currently in use and experiences both good and bad. This way, I get a very rounded picture of your dog and his motivation for any undesirable behaviours. My first consultation/lesson takes around 2 hours and costs £50. You may find that this session will give you the tools to immediately take charge and make changes that will help your dog and help you to gain back confidence and control around your dog without the need for stress and anxiety. I am happy to work out a training schedule should you feel you need more time and help. It is impossible to guess how many sessions you may need as all dogs and their families are different and I know there are a lot of factors scheduling and juggling time to cover household and lifestyle needs. Most families I have helped have need between 2-8 sessions. The majority of my clients have found 1-2 sessions very beneficial. Further sessions are £30 per hour. You are under no obligation to block book sessions or have weekly lessons although I may advise weekly sessions depending on the behavioural problem. You are free to call or email me if you would like a chat about how I can help you. For example a task would be "sit" your dog would have to obey your command 3 different times in different locations, the task would then be complete.
