Antique/Vintage French Pewter Lavabo
I believe this to be an Antique, or Vintage French Pewter Lavabo on oak wood. A water font with Fleur de Lis symbols. The wall mounted pewter tank & basin, has been crudely nailed to the oak board. It could be used as a garden decoration. This unusual antique I think is called a Lavabo. In France, it was hung outside, where the sunshine could warm the metal tank of water, so you had warm water to wash your hands with. Devolved from Church fonts into secular use. These days, they are often sought after as garden decoration. This French Lavabo is made of pewter & is mounted on heavy oak wood. The oak does have a large split in it. There is a pewter water tank on the top, with lid slotted on over bent hooks. The bottom bowl requires repairing, as it's coming away from its back piece, so requires repairing if you wish it to hold fluid. Both pieces of pewter would benefit from a polish. I think the spout should have a tap, which is missing. I don't believe the tank to be water tight anymore so may need a little tlc. Can post at extra cost. Postage includes being signed for. Read more
