Here we have a used 6' inch sweet iron with copper lozenge hanging cheek bit. Made by shires, brought for my horse but accidentally brought the wrong size and because I used it, I cannot return it. Has been used a few times till I realised it was the wrong size, since has been stored in my tack room.   Great bit for starting a horse as the sweet iron encourages salivation and acceptance of the bit and the copper lozenge reduces the nut cracker action seen when using a normal snaffle bit. NS Baucher/hanging cheek snaffle Size 5.5 In very good condition with only slight chomp marks on mouthpiece but still very smooth and no sharp edges. Save on the RRP of around £85. Dressage legal as a Snaffle or as a Bradoon used in conjunction with a Weymouth. Explanation from the manufacturer; The action of this bit works mainly on poll pressure, when a contact is taken the upper arm is angled forwards causing the mouthpiece to lift - thereby suspending it in the mouth and reducing pressure across the tongue and the bars, very beneficial for sensitive mouths! Any extension above the mouthpiece causes poll pressure - this in itself has a head lowering action. However, if the horse is going forward into a contact and is active behind this will encourage a rounding action and will help tremendously with the outline.

Hanging Cheek Waterford Bit. The hanging cheek waterford can be a comfortable bit for a horse as long as the rider has sympathetic hands. The mouthpiece is made up of a series of rounded links, that is similar to a chain and can be manipulated by the horse allowing him to swallow and move his mouth freely. If the horse pulls whilst wearing the waterford, the mouthpiece is uncomfortable and usually the horse will not lean on it. The rider should never 'see saw' the hands when using a waterford bit as it can make the bit very severe. In excellent condition.
