A lovely side saddle that was made by Champion and Wilton fully refurbished by Sarah Seale with a C& W fitting. The length is , width and from the front of the fixed head to the center back of the saddle is . It is a wide fit. It comes with a stirrup and leather, beautifully balanced and a dream to ride in. Unfortunately does not fit my present horse.

A lovely victorian 's era Champion & Wilton gentlemans saddle in brown leather pigskin. Measures 18" head nail to centre back at cantle length and a narrow medium width fitting. This antique saddle has a sound tree with extra reinforced hunting bar behind the gullet plate, felt and wool flocked close contact rugby panels (half panels) with sound girth straps on each side. The saddle has usual patina on smooth seat due to years of use but leather is in very good condition for age, flexible and attractive. This saddle would have been originally a london tan colour when first made and has mellowed to a dark reddish brown with age. The saddle has a sympathetic patch over cantle due to wear in the underlying leather and a patch to one panel that does not affect its use. This is an antique saddle rare to find in sound condition, there are the remains of the makers paper label see pic. And one of the buckle guards is stamped Champion and Wilton. Ideal for historical interest or prop for films. The saddle is sound in tree and stitching to use but would have to be a narrow high withered horse! As our modern horses have broader wider spines and backs compared to the lean thoroughbred types of victorian days! Rare opportunity to collect a piece of history. Saddle at least 115 years old! Champion and Wilton were well known London makers of gentlemans saddlery and ladies side saddles known throughout the world for their high quality leather goods. As you can seen from the pictures, all have been well used and there is some corrosion on the metal work.  This should be expected of items of this age though. They are all authentic and are rare collectors items. 1. A ladies side saddle stirrup iron stamped with 'Owen and Co' of London.   2. The leather attachment for the stirrup. 3.               This is a fine and early example of an antique early safety stirrup.  "VICTORIAN Ladies SIDESADDLE STIRRUP IRON" CIRCA 's The base underneath is hand stamped with "SCOTT'S SAFETY SOLID NICKEL"      SIZE 3 The stirrup Iron is "put together" with hand planished side rivetts.  Full height- 17cm Inside bar height- 10.5cm Full width- 13cm Inside foot aperture- 8.5cm  Perfect and usable condition, very strong with no looseness.   Due to being an antique I have left its years of patina alone. (this is NOT rust only metal disclolouration), though if you chose, the stirrup would polish up with an abrasive cleaner to shiny Nickel very easily.(I use Autosol)  Only adds to the character of this stirrup iron. Details about   Ornate Antique Early Victorian Side Saddle

A beautiful Victorian Somerset style side saddle that has been stored in an attic for many years. I have taken it to a local repairer who has said from the style of stitching he believes it to be early Victorian circa 's. There is no maker marks visible but because of the ornate leatherwork, style & quality it would have been a very high end saddle I am told. It has a doeskin seat & the rest of the saddle is pigskin, although old it looks as though it originally had very little use, the seat does not show wear & neither do the girth straps etc. Measured to where the normal cutback would be makes it a " saddle and is a wide width fit, so would easily fit a modern horse. The underneath panels would need replacing to make it rideable but other than that the tree is sound and leatherwork good although slightly dry but will come up even better once conditioned which I have not attempted to do. The leather has a few dimples at the very end of the top pommel/fixed head and if you want any other photos let me know. Local collection from nr gloucester or I can ship. I will also ship overseas but the cost needs to be covered so please contact me first & I will try & get a quote for you to give idea of cost.
