A vintage -probably Victorian - side saddle that although needing a few repairs has been kept in dry storage and is in good condition for age. I have taken photos of measuring points and it is on  a 14.2 pony so hope that helps with sizing  .Various delivery/collection options available.

Details about   Ornate Antique Early Victorian Side Saddle

A beautiful Victorian Somerset style side saddle that has been stored in an attic for many years. I have taken it to a local repairer who has said from the style of stitching he believes it to be early Victorian circa 's. There is no maker marks visible but because of the ornate leatherwork, style & quality it would have been a very high end saddle I am told. It has a doeskin seat & the rest of the saddle is pigskin, although old it looks as though it originally had very little use, the seat does not show wear & neither do the girth straps etc. Measured to where the normal cutback would be makes it a " saddle and is a wide width fit, so would easily fit a modern horse. The underneath panels would need replacing to make it rideable but other than that the tree is sound and leatherwork good although slightly dry but will come up even better once conditioned which I have not attempted to do. The leather has a few dimples at the very end of the top pommel/fixed head and if you want any other photos let me know. Local collection from nr gloucester or I can ship.               This is a fine and early example of an antique early safety stirrup.  "VICTORIAN Ladies SIDESADDLE STIRRUP IRON" CIRCA 's The base underneath is hand stamped with "SCOTT'S SAFETY SOLID NICKEL"      SIZE 3 The stirrup Iron is "put together" with hand planished side rivetts.  Full height- 17cm Inside bar height- 10.5cm Full width- 13cm Inside foot aperture- 8.5cm  Perfect and usable condition, very strong with no looseness.   Due to being an antique I have left its years of patina alone. (this is NOT rust only metal disclolouration), though if you chose, the stirrup would polish up with an abrasive cleaner to shiny Nickel very easily.(I use Autosol)  Only adds to the character of this stirrup iron. Antique side saddle balance girth. Measures approx 43 inches buckle to buckle. Last used in the early 's on an Owen side saddle. A unique girth which has the extra padding as seen in the photograph to avoid rubbing the horse. Buckles, stitching are in good condition for its age so could still be used.  Buckles are engraved with a name but cannot make it out. One or two marks / cracks on the girth which you should expect from an item from this period.  Would benefit a good clean and oiling. Please see our other items for sale.

Newly made OFF SIDE side saddle for a draft horse. The riders legs go to the right hand side. Size XW Tree, 18" diagonal points. 18"length of Seat, 14"width of seat. This saddle is for a very wide horse. I designed the tree to be flatter and broader to accommodate a true draft horse with no/minimal withers.  This one has a regular stirrup bar, with the counter part stirrup leather. A collaspable iron MUST be used. Imported leather with English sent metal parts, fine suede seat and pommels, wool flocking. This is a non jumping saddle. It is not reinforced enough to absorb the pressure a jumping side saddle demands. This saddle comes with an adjustable stirrup leather and balance strap. You will need to provide a safety iron and girth. I do sell draft girths, 60" upwards if needed, but you will have better idea what size to order once the saddle is on your horse. This was our first saddle, called the 'Malone'. I took them to Beta years ago, they have also appeared at the Side Saddle Nationals for the past 3 years. They are great starter saddles, but I am focusing on our European saddle now, which can be made for a draft horse, but these last few will not be continued. Champion & Wilton 17". 8" between d rings. 13" wide seat. This saddle is in fairly original condition, showing signs of wear, as to be expected for her age. The tree appears sound. There is some wear to the edges of the doeskin seat which has been repaired in places. It is in very usable condition. The thumb screw is missing from the leaping head. this saddle is roughly 100yrs old.  it was given to me and i had it REFURBISHED  by a local master saddler in the hope it would fit my pony but unfortunately it's not wide enough.  it has been beautifully done and sadly needs to be sold to fund purchase of one that will fit. it doesn't have a makers stamp on it but i can tell you the tree is sound. thanks for looking:-)
