Acavallo Gel Bit Guards in Brown - hardly used and made from a lovely soft, flexible gel to prevent pinching by loose-ring bits but these can also be used to help keep the bit steady in the horses mouth. They are made from a lovely soft gel and are much easier to get on than most conventional rubber bit guards (you still need some warm water but they once warm they slip straight on - even onto 3-Ring Gag bits). These bit guards also flare inwards to ensure a snug fit and to protect the corners of the horses mouth whilst also preventing pinching of the bit, these bit guards do not move around on the bit which makes bridling a horse with these on the bit less fiddly than conventional bit guards. Pelham- 4 1/2'' with curb chain and strap, great condition. The Hard rubber pelham is about the most popular variety of pelham, and the modern alternative to the vulcanite pelhams. The hard rubber coating softens the action of the curved mullen mouth of this pelham bit giving space for the tongue, with no collapse on the bars and no real palate pressure.  Hard rubber pelhams are best suited to horse that have enough space for a large mouthpiece and are ideal for novice riders using a stronger bit for the first time as the mouth is so mild. Pelhams are designed to be used with two reins, the 'snaffle' rein on the larger ring which should have a constant contact, and the curb rein is attached to the smaller loose bottom ring and is used when needed. The small hole in the shank just above the curb ring is for a lip strap, not essential but correct for showing and helps to keep the curb chain flat.  If the rider wishes to use only one pair of reins, roundings can be used to join the snaffle and curb rings together and the reins go on the loop of leather to give an action on both mouthpiece and curb when the rein is pulled.
