American shank / curb bit 5 1/2 inches. 14cm. I would say this is some sort of Western reining bit. This was sold to me as being sweet iron, however, it also has some copper inlay in the back. I have used this a few times and the mouth piece is showing some almost like rust substance, I think it maybe the sweet iron. This is not rough and doesn't come off if you handle it. Its a straight, slightly mullen mouth, with a barrel in the center. This does NOT offer any flexion of the mouth piece, ONLY rotation so the shanks can be used independently. Shanks are 5 inches long from the mouth piece to the bottom of the ring. I've tried to be as detailed as possible about this unique bit.

Function: Utilizing various pressure points, Combination Bits offer simultaneous interaction of the mouthpiece, curb strap and noseband. When rein pressure is applied or released, the combination bit automatically disperses or releases direct action and leverage pressure to the horses mouth, chin, nose and poll. Pressure is spread between the four areas instead of mostly concentrated on the mouth as with traditional bits, allowing the rider to send a softer and kinder message. Light pressure is applied to the mouth as the mouthpiece slides on the ring. After contacting the "ring stop,” the mouthpiece will engage completely and apply more downward pressure.
