Beatles 60s Cavern Club Comp Slip Bob Wooler Collection

An Original s Cavern Club Compliments Slip. The compliments slip has the Cavern Club logo printed on the top and the club’s 10 Mathew Street, Liverpool address printed at the bottom. It measures 11.4cm x 8.9cm (4.5 inches x 3.5 inches). The Condition is Excellent. The compliments slip is from the collection of former Cavern Club compère Bob Wooler. Bob was a pivotal figure in the Merseyside music scene. His initial involvement with Merseybeat came via a local skiffle group named The Mars Bars who later became Gerry And The Pacemakers. Bob found his niche as a compère at the Cavern, it was in this role that he made his greatest contribution to popularising Merseybeat. He is most notable for being instrumental in introducing Brian Epstein to The Beatles on his visit to the Cavern on 9th November . He introduced The Beatles on countless occasions during their 292 appearances at the club from 21st March to their last appearance on 3rd August and became a great local ambassador for the group, helping to develop and consolidate their popularity on Merseyside. Bob acted as a booking agent for The Cavern until (the club had folded on 27th February to re-open four months later). He continued to book acts and promote gigs in and around Liverpool for the rest of the 60s and into the 70s and was active throughout the 80s in organising and contributing to Beatles conventions in the UK. Bob could frequently be seen at the Annual Liverpool Beatles Convention chatting to fans and enthralling them with stories from the 60s. Right until the end of his life Bob remained fiercely proud of his roots and of both The Beatles and of Liverpool’s contribution to popular music and culture. RARE -THE BEATLES CAVERN CLUB BRICK- LIMITED TO ONLY with ROYAL LIFE PLAQUE -MEMORABILIA-

A rather rare find, one of only bricks consigned from the original Cavern Club when it was reconstructed, reopening on 26 April having been taken over by Liverpool footballer Tommy Smith in association with Royal Life. The club was rebuilt with many of its original bricks, however some were sold in aid of charity - just like this fine example. The Cavern is the Beatles famous establishing ground as the group secured their first recording contract with Brian Epstein after their first performance at the club on 9th February . The Beatles made 292 appearances at the Cavern Club between . The new club sustains its attraction to performing artists and it is suggested around 40 live bands perform there each week. Notably this brick has its Royal Life certification plaque attached, dated and reading ‘This is to certify that this is one of bricks which Royal Life salvaged from the original Cavern Club, Mathew Street, Liverpool, England. Royal Life have sold these bricks, donating the proceedings to a local charity’. The plaque also contains printed facsimile signatures of Royal Life’s General Manager, H B Johnson, and The Cavern Club’s founding owner, the late Ray McFall. A Guaranteed Original B/W Photograph of Ringo Starr in Middlesex University College Hospital London Hospital with tonsillitis taken between June 3rd and June 10th . Very Good to Excellent Condition with good sharp edges and corners and no marks or dings to the surface. With very light curling at either end the photo does not lay quite flat, but I stress that the photo is not damaged as a result and just requires some time sandwiched between two presses to flatten it. The reverse is plain white with light marking. Although it does not have the typical press information printed on the back this is almost certainly a press photo as it came as part of a large batch of assorted original Beatles press photos, of which some did.
