Old Centaur - Carrara marble sculpture in the round - 19th
The little Centaur is a 19th-century copy of the Old Centaurkept at the Vatican museums. A wonderful example of Neoclassical sculpture, it rests on a porphyry base and has been crafted into a wonderful Italian statuary, while original kept at the Vatican is much larger and carved in Bigio Morato marble. Painstakingly chiselled into details and in excellent condition, only the thumb of the right hand is missing, as shown in pictures.
