VINTAGE BRENTLEIGH WARE FESTIVAL OFBRITAIN TANKARD
This is a a nice example of the type of item produced in to celebrate the Festival of Britain exhibition which was at time full of post war optimism. A huge number of souvenirs were made for this exhibition from the smallest thing like a thimble,teapots,cups,plates, scarfs the list is endless. The exhibition was opened by the King and Queen in May a National Exhibition organised to promote Britain's contribution to science, technology, industrial design, architecture and the arts. Visited by more than 8 million people costing five shillings to enter. This is a lovely commemorative tankard in a cream glaze with a detailed handle picked out in green. The tankard shows on the front an impressive building Cardiff’s city hall with a signature“K FRENCH” in the right-hand corner possibly the person who painted the tankard, on the back Cardiff’s coat of arms. The tankard’s is great vintage condition with no cracks or chips, made by Brentleigh potteries Staffordshire England. Stamped on the bottom The Festival of Britain emblem with CARDIFF underneath. The Festival Star was designed by Abram Games. Under that a description A fine view of the CITY HALL, the main frontage of which is 265 feet above the council chamber, is the dome which is 50 feet in diameter and is surmounted by a huge welsh dragon of special interest to visitors is the magnificent marble hall in the city hall Stamped: - Brentleigh Ware Staffordshire England These items are now becoming quite rare and particularly in good condition, this would make a lovely addition to your collection of memorabilia from The Festival of Britain or as a gift for someone.
