BRASS MAGNETIC COMPASS

Great Valentine or birthday present. Heavy, solid brass construction. Highly polished interior set in antique patina finish outer case. The glass covered magnetic compass has a flip up sundial gnomon (shadow indicator vane) enabling use as a timepiece in conjunction with the Roman numeral clockface. Apart from navigational use can also be used as ornament and paper weight. The diameter is 7cm and the closed height is 2.85cm. When open, with the vane raised and the lid reversed onto the base, the overall height is 6cm. The weight is 207 grams. Bought as presents but not ultimately given. Two available at £30 each.

Vintage, Antique Brass Compass / Magnifying Glass /

You are looking at a antique compass, magnifying glass and telescope set all in a wooden box reinforced by metal strips. Was found during a turn out of the attic. We say brass but in fairness the compass, the telescope and the magnifying glass could be made of bronze, not sure how to tell the difference. The box is made of a hardwood, possibly oak but again we can't say that with 100% certainty. Overall condition is very good, as per the pictures. Not sure of the age though we have had it for at least 20 years and it was not new then. I have my beautiful ornate globe which is mounted onto a brass tripod-leg stand which incorporates a compass. This would make a wonderful gift for someone in the coming festive season. Each country is inlaid from a different stone, and the stones are individually cut and ground to exacting interlocking shapes, polished and set into this exquisite piece of art with care and attention to detail. The elements of the globe are created out of lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, amethyst, african jade, tiger's eye, jasper, turquoise, purple quartz, onyx, unakite, abalone, green marble and many other beautifully character and richly veined stones. The latitude and longitude lines are very thin ribbons of polished brass, embedded through the globe.
