Raven Mews Raptors - Complete Falconry Courses For Beginners

We are offering a complete falconry course for people starting out in the sport. This course will cover everything you need to know to care for, man and train a bird of prey to a high standard; it includes hands-on experience with our hunting birds, demonstrations with handling techniques and equipment, personalised advice and some hawking/hunting sessions with us, our ferrets and birds. It will be backed up with free advice for as long as you require it; if you go ahead with eventually getting a bird of your own then I will support you informationally through the entire process and beyond. This course is not a raptor experience day; it is a fully comprehensive and down-to-earth course for people who are seriously considering owning their own bird. The course will be held in November, in Lincoln, LN3 5BB. Our next course is on 8th Nov, then every two weeks after that. There will be a maximum of 4 places on this one, although if I'm already booked when you enquire then there may be places on another day. The charge is £80 per participant. We may accept concessions on this in certain circumstances. It can also be paid in instalments. The course will be conducted in three sessions; in the first, we will discuss raptor accommodation, equipment, nutrition, weight control, manning and training, fitness, flying, hunting, and much more. We will also have a break for lunch and an in-depth question-and-answer session afterwards. The second two sessions are charged separately and are not compulsory. The second session will be a touch-up and recap on the aspects of the first, then a more detailed look at hunting techniques, weight control and motivation, fitness and metabolism. The third session will cover equipment-making and a workshop on this subject - making paracord, polyester, and leather equipment, plus loads of hands-on crafting of falconry-furniture. These will be followed up by one-to-one advice and help with anything you found difficult or just want to gain confidence in.
