Piano and jazz lessons with an experienced and patient
Piano students of all ages and experience levels are welcome at my studio. Learn to play classical, jazz, pop and/or other styles of music from a working professional musician. I am an experienced, patient, and enthusiastic teacher with a Master of Music degree and many years of teaching and performing experience. My goal is to help each student grow as a musician and to nurture his or her love of music. Lessons focus on topics such as performance, healthy playing techniques, music reading, harmony and chord symbols, improvisation, ear training, and music theory, and are tailored to each individual's needs and goals. Students have the option of preparing for ABRSM or Trinity graded music exams, or studying music without taking exams. Jazz improvisation coaching sessions and music theory tutoring are also available for students of any instrument or voice. I have been teaching piano since and hold a Master of Music degree from DePaul University, in Chicago. I am an encouraging, patient and experienced teacher, as well as an experienced performer. My students have included many professional musicians as well as children of all ages and adult students who are just beginning or looking to improve upon their existing skills. I worked as a professional musician in Chicago for twenty years before moving to Scotland in . My work in Chicago included playing for the Chicago company of Jersey Boys, accompanying the Chicago Children's Choir, playing regular jazz gigs, providing music for weddings, and travelling throughout the US and Canada with various groups, among many other projects. In addition to freelancing as a pianist and vocalist in Glasgow, I work with various choirs as a conductor and an accompanist. I have also co-founded the jazz duo Scatty Fox, which has performed at the Glasgow Jazz Festival and other venues, and one of my piano recordings was recently featured in a project at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I am a PVG Scheme member (Disclosure Scotland) and have successfully completed the LSIS safeguarding course. Parents are, of course, always welcome to observe their children's lessons. Lessons take place at my home studio in Dumbarton, on my Grotrian-Steinweg grand piano. There is easy street parking, and it is a short walk from Dalreoch station. Additionally, lessons via Skype or a similar platform are available for adult students. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or to set up a lesson!
