Baroque / classical violin by George Barton, London
A violin by George Barton, London, In baroque/classical setup. This is a delightful period violin of very comfortable dimensions (length of back: 351mm; sounding string length: 312mm). It has an attractive one-piece back and a striking one-piece table. Equally notable is the broad light middle strip of the purfling, giving the violin a characterful look. The violin is very responsive and plays easily and with a sweet tone across the range. It has been played professionally and has recently been fitted with a new baroque bridge and tailpiece by luthier Martin Bowers, Maldon. A viola of similar quality by this maker is currently for sale at Moseley Violins, Birmingham for £.
