Roland Ward Hoof inkwell, dated with glass liner,

This fabulous antique hoof Inkwell made by Roland Ward of Piccadilly, London. The hoof belonged to my Great Uncle who was an officers batman during the British rule in India. The horse "Coqette" was the officers favourite polo pony and when it died the hoof was sent to Roland Ward in London to be made into this inkwell. The condition is superb, the brass work Is a little faded on the lid through cleaning, but the hoof itself has no nail marks and the shoe is stamped with the makers name and address. LARGE ANTIQUE HAND BLOWN GLASS INKWELL ROMAN HEAD TO LID

This is a wonderful and unusual hand blown Glass Inkwell of a large size with a Roman Head to the lid. We believe the lid is bronze due to the characteristics and slight wear due to age but not 100% sure. There’s some very fine lines in the glass around the edge but otherwise in good condition with no chips or restoration. It’s of good weight at just over 890g. There’s a pontil mark to the base showing the scar where the pontil, punty or punt was broken from a work of blown glass. The Inkwell is approximately 8cm tall and a diameter of 16cm across the base so is a super size. The push button works brilliantly to open the outer lid revealing The inner inkwell bottle lid with the anchor and serpent witch denotes that it was used by the navel service. It has a little switch (not common) on the right to open the bottle lid. This has the marks PRIV and an Austrian double headed eagle coat of arms on it. When this is opened it reveals a small glass ink bottle witch when the lid is closed Secures the ink inside. The glass bottle is original and has had to be cleaned to check for damage. This inkwell is not Russian, polish Czechoslovakian or any other nationality because has none of the European country had these markings or coat of arms. Read More
