Attractive late Victorian/Edwardian small writing desk/bureau with inlaid mahogany decoration

A very attractive late Victorian/Edwardian inlaid mahogany bureau / writing desk circa , in good condition. It is relatively small and lightweight, and would fit into a smallish space (for example, the corner of a sitting room or study, or entrance hall). The desk is inlaid with lighter woods, probably satinwood and boxwood. It has cabriole legs and drop handles. The writing surface folds down and is supported by two retractable arms. There are three generous drawers in its lower part. The desk measures 76 cm (30”) wide, 41 cm (16”) deep and 91 cm (39.5”) tall. It has a writing height of 68 cm (26.5″). It offers a surprising amount of storage space including a hinged desk top which lifts to reveal a spacious paperwork or laptop compartment, complete with eight drawers. The desk top itself provides an excellent writing surface - this is covered in leather which is embossed with complimentary gold tooling.The shelf on the top also lifts to reveal a secret compartment which could be used for pens etc.The two front legs are ornate and very impressive and to each side is a further set of four drawers.Originally very expensive, It is in excellent condition. The bureau features 3 large drawers and a drop down leather lined writing surface. Two supporting felt topped wooden supports automatically withdraw from the front of the bureau when the top is opened. Inside the bureau there are two miniature drawers and eight pigeon holes to store letters/documents etc. The bureau measures approximately: Height: cm Width: 74.5cm Depth: 44cm when top closed, 76.5cm when top open This lovely desk is in used condition and has some marks normal for an item of this age – but these can be easily restored if required.
