Antique Toleware Tin Trunk Military Footlocker.

This vintage Tin Trunk Military Footlocker with original paintwork has reinforced top corners but has one handle missing on the left-hand side. By looking at this you can see that it has seen much action over the years and since the late 50’s early 60’s has been used as a tool chest. The chest was recently removed from a loft and on opening there were Newspapers from , which I believe was the last time the chest had been opened. This is a large antique pine military campaign chest probably from about the period. It has the original iron handles, and is bound with old metal straps. The inside is fully tin lined, to use the chest probably for waterproof document storage, or to keep food fresh in ice. It is large, measuring 100cm long, by 55cm deep, by 57cm high. It is heavy. The chest is solid, in good condition for its age, with no woodworm. It has the usual knocks, dents and minor repairs you will find with wooden boxes of this age. Louis Vuitton Trunk - Orange Vuittonite This trunk dates from circa and considering its age and the extensive traveling it has endured the trunk is in great condition. The construction of the case consists of a strong wooden frame wrapped with the rare orange vuittonite canvass and finished with brown leather protective trims, and branded studs, clasps and latches. Both serial numbers can be found on the inside of the lid and below the main clasp. These can identify where and when the trunk was made. The Trunk was owned by C F A Pantin who we believe was a British Zoologist educated at Christ College Cambridge. Pantin was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society in and won the Royal medal in . He went on to become the president of the Marine Biological Association. More information can be found out about him on Wikipedia. Measurements Length - 101 cm Width - 53 cm Height - 34.5 cm This would make a wonderful coffee table or center piece for any room. Condition As can be expected from an antique trunk of this age there are marks and scuffs to both the fabric and the leather to the exterior of the case (Please study photos). The interior, although in great condition, is missing the internal tray and in one corner, on the underside of the lid, the fabric has come away due to a missing fabric pin.
