For sale is this absolutely incredible 17th/18th century coffer. It's in amazing antique condition with the most beautiful genuine patina. I've cleaned the inside and given the outside a fresh coat of wax giving it a beautiful tactile finish. The condition is extremely good for its age. It has a very small amount of dormant worm holes at the back which are almost un noticeable. All in all its an amazing piece great condition and clean inside. Nice representation of Christ Pantocrator, master and judge (“panto” means able of doing everything and “kratos”, strong and powerful), standing with great dignity, penetrating with his gaze the heart of whoever stands in front of him and revealing the truth written in the book that only he can open. It may seem like a terrible image, but his kind and friendly gesture of the hand invites us to get closer and listen. Painted with an open book with a quote from the Gospel. Christ is depicted wearing a red chiton (tunic-shaped robe) and a light blue himation (mantle).
