Taxidermy Hawksbill Turtle Late 18th/Early 20th century

Late 19th/early 20th century taxidermy. A Hawksbill Turtle. Greatest length 37cm from bill to rear flipper x greatest width 35cm tip to tip of front flippers. Apart from a light dusting still in "as discovered" state and will benefit from further cleaning - but not by me. The original wood wool padding is just visible in the throat. Age related blemishes but overall in perfectly reasonable condition. The photographs say more than any words of mine and form part of the description. A scarce piece. Late 19th / Early 20th century original antique painted Chinese cabinet

Exquisite, one-off, hand painted antique Chinese cabinet, in very good condition. Likely from 19th century - certainly not a modern imitation! This was a gift to my family from another family member but it no longer fits in our house, which is why I'm selling. It has two main doors, three main base drawers, 3 inner drawers. All drawers and doors have original metal handles and the original metal 'closing latch'. It is made of painted wood, with 4 painted main scenes. Russian icon from the 18th century, tempera on wood. Icon of Christ Pantocrator. Nice representation of Christ Pantocrator, master and judge (“panto” means able of doing everything and “kratos”, strong and powerful), standing with great dignity, penetrating with his gaze the heart of whoever stands in front of him and revealing the truth written in the book that only he can open. It may seem like a terrible image, but his kind and friendly gesture of the hand invites us to get closer and listen. Painted with an open book with a quote from the Gospel. Christ is depicted wearing a red chiton (tunic-shaped robe) and a light blue himation (mantle). The red colour symbolises the Saviour’s human and earthly nature, the light blue stands for his heavenly and divine nature. Dimensions: 44 cm x 42 cm. Read more
