This is a beautiful panelled 17th century carved dark oak chest/coffer. In good antique condition with aged patina and with a couple of minor professional repairs which were done over a hundred years ago. The three panels at the front have carved lozenges with roses and rondells across the front. The top has four panels one of which has a deep groove that appears by the depth of the patina to have been done many many years ago, and adds to it's charm. Carved Camphor Wood ’s Oriental Blanket Box Chest

This beautiful blanket box is made of fragrant camphor wood and is partly carved. Its large clean interior is perfect for storing all manner of things from linens to toys. The wood is a rich warm golden brown colour. There is a manufacturers stamp on the underside of the chest stating made in Kowloon, Hong Kong on 30 May . A lovely old piece with lots of charm and character it will look stunning in your home. The chest sits on carved feet and the lid sits securely into place over the base and is partly fitted with a handsome brass catch (part of the fixing to hold the clasp on the chest is missing, refer to picture). CONDITION The condition is very good, structurally it is very solid with some small cosmetic marks, little scratches here and there through use. Refer to picture for a circular infill on the top of the chest. The front looks very slightly bowed but I think is more the character of the wood as the lid fits very snuggle into place. The interior is in good condition and there is an old brass stay to hold the lid open. I've cleaned the inside and given the outside a fresh coat of wax giving it a beautiful tactile finish. The condition is extremely good for its age. It has a very small amount of dormant worm holes at the back which are almost un noticeable. All in all its an amazing piece great condition and clean inside.
