Antique Minton Fruit Bowl for Repair...
Antique Minton Fruit Bowl for Repair, This is a very large, heavy and decorative fruit bowl in Minton's Amherst Japan pattern. It is about 10.5 inches (27cm) in diameter, and 6 inches (15cm) high. Underneath the maker's mark includes the number 61, which probably refers to the date of manufacture, which would make it mid-Victorian and over 150 years old.The downside is that at some point in the past someone has managed to break the base out of it without damaging the main curved area, and then had it repaired with staples. Then later someone has decided to remove the staples and glue it together instead, but they've done it very badly. The join is sound but the glue is visible, and if you like to tackle ceramic repairs then I am sure you could make a better job of it, by soaking out the old glue and repairing it more neatly. It could still be used in its present condition for fruit or something like pot pourri. This bowl is a survivor and deserves a new lease of life! Ā£5.00, Bristol, .
