Vintage dome top steamer trunk

Unrestored Victorian steamer/rail travel trunk with beech wood and metal banding, brass lock and original paper interior. Constructed of solid wood it still has a lot of the original tooled leather covering and also has the original top storage section, which is usually missing. There are two clasps, one each side of the lock, but the leather handles on the sides of the trunk are missing. The under belly has a metal bottom with two wooden runners and small inset wheels. Included are the remnants of a couple of passenger rail tickets (date unknown) which were used on the London Brighton South line. Measurements: 32.5 inches long, 19 inches wide, 21 inches high (top of dome). Collection only. Ad ID:

This could be used for storage (all catches and handles work),perhaps a blanket box at the foot of a bed. At the moment I have it stood on end and am using it as a lamp stand, endless possibilities. This is a lovely old Victorian travel trunk. It has a dome or barrel shape top and is bound with wood and brass. The wood has a brown leather covering. The trunk is in good solid vintage condition and would make a great storage chest. The inside has the original striped paper lining, which is quite tatty and could be replaced. The lid needs an adjustment as it doesn't quite fit into the locks, although this doesn't stop it from closing. 2 castors are missing but, as the remaining 2 disappear into the base when on the floor it still stands on the level. it measures 60 cm wide by 48 cm high, and weighs 10 kilos. IT ALMOST CERTAINLY HAD A TOP TRAY AT SOME TIME IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE HAD AN ENCLOSED COMPARTMENT IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUNK LID THOUGH THE DOOR OF THIS IS NOW MISSING. THERE IS NO KEY FOR THE LOCK AND THE CARRYING STRAPS HAVE LONG SINCE DISINTEGRATED THERE IS A SMALL CASTER ON EACH CORNER OF THE BASE.
