Very rare example of an American rocking armchair.

This is a rare example of an American rocking chair with the unusual added benefit of a leg rest extension which also moves the back of the chair resulting in the opportunity to lie prone. This is put in place by the use of a manual handle on the side of the chair - see second photograph. This is an exceptionally comfortable chair which, apart from a slight creaking noise in use, is in excellent clean condition. I do not know exactly how old it is but it was bought as an antique some 20 years ago. The original fabric has been replaced by a soft velvet like material - it appears in the photographs to be more pink than it is. The colour is a actually a soft beige. Measures approx. Back height - 3' Depth - 30" Width at back of seat 24" widening to 30" at the front. This is a reluctant sale of a chair the type of which I have never seen before. I found it difficult to put this book down once I started reading, and the picture really do bring the accounts to life, superbly written whilst maintaining a sense of accuracy from the research material used. With about 400 pages, it's difficult to know what to ask for such a work, I simply hope that whoever buys it will enjoy it as much as I, and be as impressed and emotionally humbled by the content as I was.
