ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SOLID MAHOGANY EXTENDING DINING TABLE

Antique mahogany dining table, over 100 years old, from the mid-Victorian period. The table is in fine vintage condition, free from woodworm and in very useable condition. The oval top has a fabulous 'pie crust' carved edge. The wind out mechanism extends the table from cm to cm. This is achieved by the insertion of the additional leaf which measures 30x105 cm. The top stands on a base with four large cabriolet legs, beautifully carved on floral motive, with 'ball and claw' feet standing on brass casters.The top is solid mahogany, as is the whole table. It has some light marks but a lot of character and certainly makes a statement. The table stands 75cm high and it comes with a period wind handle. This table is both practical and beautiful, the solid oak table sits on a sturdy cross band base with chunky turned legs set on castors (great for easy moving). The table has no major damage there is some light surface scratches which would be expected from such an old piece, but nothing to distract from the piece. Antique extending dining table (gated legs) in Spanish mahogany. The table is of Georgian design but later in date of manufacture. The base was made in the latter part of the 19th century and originally would have had an oblong top. The top may be the original and shaped oval to be more in keeping with the style of the time. It is more likely that it was from an older table and married to the base on which it now stands.
