BLUE GLASS NURSERY RHYME PLATE - CHRISTENING PRESENT
A beautiful example of Tiara Depression/Carnival glassware from the Indiana Glass Company in USA. This plate depicts two very old English nursery rhymes: 'Where Are You Going My Pretty Maid' and 'See-Saw Margery Daw'. This pattern was produced from time to time between the early 's up until . Because of the number of minor imperfections such as little air bubbles, lined and dimpled surfaces and an uneven rim, this would suggest that the plate is from one of the earlier production runs. The rich, deep, cobalt blue plate has ridged dividers providing three separate food sections. The pictures and words are impressed into the underside. The Indiana Glass Company was one of many producing cheap glassware during the great economic depression in USA. The glassware was bought in vast quantities by companies who then gave it away as an incentive to attract customers to their businesses. It was also given as prizes at country fairs and rodeos, hence the name 'Carnival' glass. After a series of takeovers the company eventually went out of business in and the factory has been demolished. For more information look up Indiana Glass, depression glassware or the Carnivalheaven website. This plate is a tangible piece of US social history and would make a great christening present or as an investment for the future.
