Brass button polishing stick - army - military - War Department - Gaunt & Sons Birmingham

Brass button polishing stick. This simple device was/is used in the armed and other home services to help keep uniforms clean when polishing the buttons and badges... simply slide the stick under the button and the uniform fabric is protected from spillages of polish. And it provides a firm surface to let you buff away and get that high gleam we so often see on our services' personnel on parade. Originally laquered, this example has been polished back to the bare brass. Still has polish marks around the central hole. It is dated & stamped "J.R.G.&S.' (J.R.Gaunt & Sons of Birmingham, who at their peak were the largest manufacturers of military accoutrements in the British Empire) & 'WD' for War Department with its 'broad arrow' insignia. Also on there is the original owner's service number . The stick measures approximately 17 cm (6.75") x 5.5 cm (2.25"). Ad ID: Delivery Service Consumer Credit
