Fire Management and Safety for Education & Outdoor Learning
The course in a nutshell: A one day certificated course run West Midlands Fire Service and Triskelion Education for teachers and practitioners involved in outdoor learning. When the weatherās warm and the days are long, thereās no shortage of exciting outdoor learning and adventure activities to keep young people busy. Fire making is often a popular feature of organised outdoor events, whether it involves camp fires and cooking or firelighting and bushcraft. So it might come as a surprise to learn that very few teachers, outdoor learning practitioners or youth leaders have ever had any formal training in fire safety and fire management. At Triskelion we want to ensure that those who teach or supervise the use of fire in an outdoor learning setting have the right knowledge and practical skills to run safe fire making sessions. We also want them to encourage young people to think beyond the act of making fire and consider the impact on their personal safety and the wider environment when fires get out of control. Thatās why weāve teamed up with West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) to launch a one day certificated training programme, Fire Management and Safety for Education and Outdoor Learning.
