The famous views of Biedermeier in the German-language edition: »First exclusively on the Middle Rhine related English steel engraving, which portrays the sights of this section of the river in an unprecedented density with 68 views. Approximately 50 engravers were involved in the execution. The originals are all by the landscape artist William Tombleson (around - around ), the text by William Gray Fearnside. "(Schmitt: Die illustrierten Rhein-Beschreibungen, page 264)In addition to the title vignette, the volume contains all 69 full-page steel engravings with trilingual inscriptions on cardboard-thick paper and interleaves made of tracing paper. Attached on 190 paginated and two unpaginated pages of the German text. Red original linen cover with gold embossing on the back, heavily faded and rubbed. Handwritten note of possession “v. Teuffel” on the introductory page. Water marks on the cardboard pages front and back, not in the book interior. A panel (Apostle Church) with loosened binding on the bottom is still firmly bound in. In the case of two panels (Bonn I and Schloss Argenfels) there is a small tear in the paper (the last panel glued behind the bookbinder). A few tissue paper slip sheets are missing. Small bumping on the first three pages on the right edge, but due to wide margins it does not affect the images. Normal browning and signs of wear. A leaflet with map is missing showing the course of the Rhine, it’s not mentioned in the book but is sometimes mentioned in comparative specimens. Read more
