Antique religious print titled 'De LXXII Cellen (in welke d'Egiptische Koning Ptolomeus Philadelphus, op het eiland Pharos, de Hebreeuwse Bibel door de Jooden in het Griex dede over zetten) volgens het oude erfgerugte, na gissing ontworpen'. This print depicts the 72 cells in which the Egyptian King Ptolomeus Philadelphus on the Island of Pharos had the Hebrew bible translated into the Greek language depicted according to tradition. Originates from 'Joodse Oudheden, ofte Voor-Bereidselen tot de Bybelsche Wysheid, en gebruik der heilige en kerkelijke historien (..)'. According to tradition the 72 scholars translated the Hebrew text in exactly the same Greek translation (known as the LXX/ Septuaginta), inspired by the Holy Spirit. Condition: Overall in good condition. A small (2,5 cm.) restored tear on the top of the paper, next to the fold. In the margins a few very small repaired tears. Restoration with highly transparant special paper (20 gr/ m2), lignin free, ultra-thin, acrylic adhesive, age-resistant, permanently elastic, non-yellowing, buffered with CaCo3.The back of the paper is blanc.
