Sculpture depicting the famous Discus thrower, made of very bright white marble. The detailing of the figure was very skilfully carried out with a high quality finish. The figure and the tree trunk were both carved out of one piece of marble. In addition, the ground and the lower part of the trunk are made up of multiple parts of marble (so these are no cracks). The statue is made after the example of the discus thrower or discobolos, a (lost) Greek bronze statue of the Attic sculptor and bronze caster Myron van Eleuthera (approx. 450 BC).
