This is the first book relating to the history of Welsh ponies and cobs to have been written. The author has selected certain Welsh Mountain pony and Welsh cob families which he considers to have had the greatest influence on the development of the Welsh pony and cob breeds. The author mentions pre-historic references and quotes 15th and 16th century Welsh poets whose references to pedigrees are almost certainly the oldest in the United Kingdom and possibly the world. The Author Dr. Wynne Davies has been a member of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society since (member of the council since ) whilst his father Mr. E.S. Davies had likewise been a member since ; his maternal grandfather had a well-known stud of Welsh cobs in the last century. Dr. Davies is probably second to none in his knowledge of the breeds and has judged at the major shows in the United Kingdom and overseas.
