The Following of Christ in Four Books By Thomas Kempis

This little collectable book dates back to and was printed in Belgium by Zech and Son who where the editors to the archdioceses of Smyrna and Quebec. The Four books of The following of Christ are all contained within this small delicate book which opens with a table of feasts and fasts throughout the year, the days of fasting, days of abstinence, the ten Commandments of God (better give him a capital letter), and the six commandments of the church. It is a new revised edition which has been translated from the original by Thomas A Kempis () by the Right Rev. R. Challoner D. D. () It has an inscription which reads “To Mrs Edwards Wishing her every grace and blessing J Howard (?) Jany " I'm not sure if “Jany” is the signatory’s name or reference to the month. It's almost 110 years old either way and 105 years since it was given as a gift. The crucifix is not as old as the book and could be from anytime ’s onwards but has lots of character. It is ebony wood which is inset in metal, and shows some patina.
