War and Conflict in Africa

In Conflict and Custody

In Conflict and Custody

In Conflict and Custody: Myriads of unhappy women feel overwhelmed by formal legal processes and a criminal justice system they believe to be ridden with gender and other biases. Personal crises, whether in their captive lives or in correctional institutions, leave women facing dead ends and crossroads that cause lasting visible and invisible damage to body and mind if not addressed. They need help that is professional without being intimidating. In Conflict and Custody recommends fine-tuned agenda-free professional counselling as the most constructive method of addressing the mental health issues of women in two problematic contexts in the Indian society-conflict and custody. The book imparts theoretical and practical guidance for trainers and would-be counsellors to equip them for therapeutic counselling of women faced with a range of personal, social, and legal problems. It demonstrates how professionally conducted therapeutic intervention can be the most empathetic way of enabling and empowering distressed women to take charge of their lives.

Power, Resistance and Conflict in the Contemporary World

Power, Resistance and Conflict in the Contemporary World

Power, Resistance and Conflict in the Contemporary World: This book examines issues of organisation in resistance movements, discussing topics including the integration of the world system, the intersection of networks with discourses of identity, and the possibility of social transformation. Drawing on a number of theorists including Deleuze and Guattari, authors Athina Karatzogianni and Andrew Robinson seek to reinterpret World Systems Theory in order to engage with issues of power, resistance, and conflict in the contemporary world. Discussing contemporary scholarship in global politics, the authors consider new and developing concepts including: global cities, bifurcations, hegemonic transitions, the relationship between capitalism and the state, the position of East Asia, and active and reactive network movements. Their analysis includes a very rich pool of empirical examples covering more than fifty countries and thirty resistance groups. Power, Resistance and Conflict in the Contemporary World will be of interest to students and scholars looking for a comprehensive new theorization of the forces at work in global politics. The book provides a framework which crosses the boundaries between international relations, international political economy, comparative politics, conflict studies, social movement studies and critical theory, producing a study of a highly interdisciplinary scope.

Ethics and Conflict

Ethics and Conflict

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Perrin, Kathleen Ouimet / McGhee, James, PUBLISHER: Delmar Thomson Learning, In the modern healthcare system, nurses encounter a spectrum of ethical dilemmas on a daily basis. Our cost-conscious system, oriented toward acute care, continues to produce numerous dilemmas for conscientious practitioners. This book is an in-depth look at the issues and processes that underly ethical decision-making. It is a powerful study of the critical relationship between nursing and ethics. As part of the Nursing Concepts Series, this text takes a probing look at the beginning of life, explores the concerns related to health maintenance throughout the lifespan, and depicts issues related to the end of life care. It will provide nurses with a thoughtful examination of how to explore the ethical dilemmas they encounter in their professional practice. A unique feature of this book is that it will explore the issues of group decision-making in ethical dilemmas and identify ways in which nurses may respond when they do not agree with the decisions made by another healthcare provider or group.

Conflict, Violence and Peace

Conflict, Violence and Peace

Conflict, Violence and Peace: Geographies of children and young people is a rapidly emerging sub-discipline within human geography. There is now a critical mass of established academic work, key names within academia, growing numbers of graduate students and expanding numbers of university level taught courses. There are also professional training programmes at national scales and in international contexts that work specifically with children and young people. In addition to a productive journal of Children's Geographies, there's a range of monographs, textbooks and edited collections focusing on children and young people published by all the major academic presses then there is a substantive body of work on younger people within human geography and active authors and researchers working within international contexts to warrant a specific Major Reference Work on children's and young people's geographies. The volumes and sections are structured by themes, which then reflect the broader geographical locations of the research.

Conflict and Development (Paperback)

Conflict and Development (Paperback)

Over the past decade,a new awareness of the relationship between conflicts and development has grown. This book explores the complexity of the links between violent conflict (usually civil wars) and development,under-development and uneven development. It emphasizes the connections between stable developed economies and civil wars in other parts of the world, and exam

Unbending Gender: Why Family and Work Conflict and What to

Unbending Gender: Why Family and Work Conflict and What to

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Williams, Joan, PUBLISHER: Oxford University Press, In Unbending Gender, Joan Williams takes a hard look at the state of feminism in America. Concerned by what she finds--young women who flatly refuse to identify themselves as feminists and working-class and minority women who feel the movement hasn't addressed the issues that dominate their daily lives--she outlines a new vision of feminism that calls for workplaces focused on the needs of families and, in divorce cases, recognition of the value of family work and its impact on women's earning power. Williams shows that workplaces are designed around men's bodies and life patterns in ways that discriminate against women, and that the work/family system that results is terrible for men, worse for women, and worst of all for children. She proposes a set of practical policies and legal initiatives to reorganize the two realms of work in employment and households--so that men and women can lead healthier and more productive personal and work lives. Williams introduces a new 'reconstructive' feminism that places class, race, and gender conflicts among women at center stage. Her solution is an inclusive, family-friendly feminism that supports both mothers and fathers as caregivers and as workers.
