The name changed to âGermaansche ong>SSong> in Nederlandâ on November . As the Dutch ong>SSong> was to become an elite unit, not everyone could join. Selections took place based on race, attitude towards life, personality and physical condition. The importance ong>ofong> having a branch ong>ofong> Himmlerâs ong>SSong> in The Netherlands rested on four considerations. Firstly was that the ong>SSong> wanted a prominent position in the occupied countries. Secondly the ong>SSong> considered the foundation ong>ofong> the Dutch ong>SSong> ong>ofong> great importance for the recruitment ong>ofong> volunteers for the ong>Waffenong>-ong>SSong>. The third consideration was to âpushâ Muong>ssong>ert towards the wished for great-German thought. And the fourth consideration was the fact that the foundation ong>ofong> the Dutch ong>SSong> had important propaganda value.Muong>ssong>ert was informed in June ong>ofong> an order by Hitler to recruit Dutchmen for the âWikingâ division ong>ofong> the ong>Waffenong>-ong>SSong>. The Dutch would get their own Standarte âWestlandâ.In first instance Muong>ssong>ert refused his cooperation, though after a while he did make conceong>ssong>ions to avoid to bring his own position in danger. In order to save his position, Muong>ssong>ert agreed in September with the foundation ong>ofong> the Dutch ong>SSong> as a variant ong>ofong> the Allgemeine ong>SSong>. And so was the Dutch ong>SSong> founded by Muong>ssong>ert on September , formally as a sub-division (Afdeling XI) ong>ofong> the NSB. Henk Feldmeijer was appointed as âVoormanâ, who in daily practice didnât take much notice ong>ofong> Muong>ssong>ert and his NSB. Feldmeijer tried to hook up more and more with the German Allgemeine (political) ong>SSong>. On November the name was changed to âGermaansche ong>SSong> in Nederlandâ. This name-change emphasised that the Dutch aspect was no longer the most important, though the âGermaanscheâ was. They had approx. members and was foremost a political formation in addition to being a recruitment pool for the ong>Waffenong>-ong>SSong>. The Dutch ong>SSong> were dreong>ssong>ed in a black uniform, that was based on that ong>ofong> the German ong>SSong>. Towards the end ong>ofong> , the âGermaansche ong>SSong> in Nederlandâ virtually only existed on paper because ong>ofong> the change ong>ofong> tides in the war for the Germans and their followers. The ong>lotong> contains 4 copies ong>ofong> the weekly Storm ong>ofong> the âGermaansche ong>SSong> in Nederlandâ. In addition a brochure to encourage Dutchmen to join the ong>Waffenong>-ong>SSong>. Read More
