Night Watchmans Clock Simplex Leather Cased, Vintage

Serial No: This Vintage / Antique night watchman's clock is enclosed in a machine turned solid aluminium case with chromed hinge and ring handle. The carry case is in a Hard Black Leather complete with shoulder strap and chromed buckles although these are showing there age. Both case and clock are in a used condition with some damage to the retaining strap and at some point the shoulder strap has been detached from the carry case body and someone has attempted to re-attach the shoulder strap with two metal pins. It has x5 keys One winding key & One key to alter the time, the case key is missing but the case is open (I haven't tried to close the case as this may lock the case which would then be not possible to open), The clock still has it's original recording tape installed but the key is missing, there is x3 other keys but not sure as to what these are for. Dimensions: Clock face approx 5cm Diameter, Clock case approx 12cm Diameter, Depth 7cm, Leather case approx 14cm by 9cm deep, Total Weight: g This is a beautifully made substantial time piece! Simplex was an American Co. founded in . But believe their clocks were made in Germany. The watchman's clock was in use in Factories, Mills, Hotels etc, and any buildings that employed a Night Watchman. The guard would carry his clock and proceed on his rounds throughout the night. At certain places there would be a “station” with a key that he would put into the clock and turn which would record on an internal paper tape what time he had visited that station. There were numerous stations within the building. In this way management would know the Night watchman was doing his job. Due to not having the knowledge of how this clock functions I'm selling as spares or repair. It is fully working including date mechanism and is being used on a daily basis and is in very good presentable condition with no woodworm that I can see, also the face is virtually unmarked and in excellent condition. To give a little provenance on the history, the clock has the name William Evans from Great Malvern. I did a little research and it appears he traded in the years . Antique chiming wall clock. I bought this from an antique shops in Neath in the s. The shop owner told me it was fully restored. As I really wanted one I paid over a ton for it. He was a big liar as it has never seen any restoration whatsoever as a good friend who restores clocks told me at the time. That said it does work keeping reasonable time for a clock of its age. The chimes which are quite beautiful chime at every quarter of an hour. It is missing a decorative piece at the top and the finial at the bottom has become detached but only needs glueing. VICTORIAN OAK CASED CHIMING MANTLE CLOCK

This is a Victorian wooden cased chimes mantel clock - i am not an expert but the wood appears to be oak, and it has a glass panelled door. It has large dimensions of 13" in height x 10.5" in width x 7" deep - it weighs approx 6.5kg unpacked. Unfortunately i have lost the key to this clock, but the last time it was in use it was in working order - however as i cannot guarantee that this is still the case, then it is being sold as spares or repairs. The wooden clock casing is generally in good order, with only minor wear and tear to the extremities (corners, edges, surfaces), but there is no damage to the wood.
