Vintage Nut Crackers by Mappin & Webb

These crackers were made by Mappin & Webb for the Orient Steam Navigation Company (OSNC) probably in the early 's. They are marked with M&W signature plus the company's Coat of Arms. The OSNC was formally established in and latterly concentrated its interests on the Australian trade in partnership first with Pacific Steam Navigation Company of Liverpool and then with the Royal Mail company, and providing a co-ordinated mail and passenger service with ships of the P&O fleet. The Coat of Arms depicts both a Lion and a Kangaroo highlighting the Antipodean connection. A very unusual and collectable curio. Vintage navy blue reptile Skin Kelly Bag by Mappin and Webb

Blue lizard skin with suede inside lining. This bag is in excellent condition. There is some wear to one corner and a scratch to the base of the bag. The strap is intact, the zip on the interior pocket still works and so does the clasp. There are a couple of very light age spots marks on the lining. Medium sized bag, measures approx. 27cm x 18cm, x 6cm, strap measures approx. 40cm. There is one compartment with one zipped pocket lined in blue fabric and two open pockets that side and one other open pocket on the other side. The fittings are gold tone, with a secure push clasp The bag is fully lined in pale suede. Inside the bag has two large open pockets (one divided into two sections) and a larger zipped pocket. Measures: width 25cm; height 16cm; depth 7cm. Handle drop is 15cm to top of bag. Mappin & Webb sold these handbags from its Old Bond Street store. Read More
