Vintage french oyster fishermans apple fruit log towel
I have two of these fabulous original vintage oyster baskets, both exactly the same. They were purchased from Ardingly antiques and collectors fair and I believe they were brought over from from France where the oyster beds are and they were used to collect them in to store on the boats to be then taken to market. They still have their original finish and look wonderfully rustic with great patina, they measure 47 cms across the top at the widest part including the handles and are 42 cms high. They are incredibly strong and robust, made to withstand the roughest of treatment on board the boats and be thrown around on the quayside once docked. I have one of these in my bathroom which I use as a quirky towel basket but they have so many other uses, limited only by your imagination,a few suggestions are: a great log basket by the fireside, storage container anywhere around the house,or if lined with a plastic liner with drainage holes in the bottom could be filled with compost and planted up for an unusual planter in the garden or on the patio. They will be perfectly happy outside all year round. They could be used to gather apples or other fruit or hold rolls of wallpaper or keep other craft items to hand in a work room perhaps, whatever they are used for they will add a stylish touch to the room or garden scheme.
