18 volumes complete, 1st Edition, with illustrations, including 500 special plates by HARRY FURNISS drawn expressly for this edition, which was published to mark the centenary of Dickens' birth. The last two volumes by J.A. Hammerton, are in themselves, notable additions to the Dickens Literature. Maroon morocco over maroon cloth. Five raised bands to spines with elaborate gilt panels and lettering, series monogram blocked in gilt on upper boards, gilt backs, gilt tops, marbled endpapers, illustrated titles in green and black, half- titles in green. original reinforced hinges. Over 100 years old, this set is in reasonable condition with some foxing on the endpapers. Slight damage to edge of upper board on one volume. Back strips chafed at heads and some wear at tails.
