Servant or Butler Portable Bell Box. Very Rare Victorian Antique

Many stately Victorian homes may have had bell boxes so that the Master of the House could ring to say what room he was in and needed attending to. This is a portable version of the same thing. The master would take this on holiday with him. He would run the very long wire (which is original) from his stately room to the not so grand room his servant was staying in. Whenever the Master needed attention he would simply push the button and the bell would ring this notifying the servant. This is in wonderful condition for its age and was powered by a largish battery. I don't know if it still actually works as I have not tested it - only had it on display in our Victorian house. As the unit is very clean however I've no reason to doubt that it could still work but please don't hold me to that! We are moving to a modern house over the next year so I am sadly selling off a lot of the Victorian items that I have collected over the years. This a beautiful and very rare Victorian Freestanding Clockwork Game Spit Roast.This item looks brilliant and has been a real eye-catcher amongst family and friends since I brought it home.The principle of this item was to allow Victorian kitchen workers to get on with their other chores and the spit would turn the cooking carcass automatically ensuring the meat was evenly cooked.You just wound it up like a clock. Its dimensions are: Total Length is 82cm including winding handle. Excluding the winding handle the item is 68cm long. The clockwork mechanism stands 31.5 cm tall and is 19cm by 23cm at its feet. VICTORIAN CARVED OAK MIRROR ON CAST IRON BASE STAND, VERY RARE & UNUSUAL, c

This is a very rare and unusual carved oak mirror on cast iron base/stand. It has cast iron neck and surround to the mirror, and a thick solid oak central pole to the body. It has dimensions of 74" in height x 26" width (to the mirror), and 20" width to the cast iron base. The only real aspect of any blemish with this item is that the oak body pole leans slightly to one side - this is due to the thread where the body slots onto the base is in need of some attention, and the thread has worn down and this causes it to not slot into place as it should. The cast iron base is also slightly rusted (see pictures), but otherwise there is no further blemishes to mention, and overall it is in very good solid condition. A RARE Large Victorian ('s) Brass Bowl, 30” Dia x 10” Deep, weight 18.5lbs. I have owned this lovely looking and practical bowl for over thirty years and it has sat by many wood burning stoves in that time, filled with logs and looking very traditional. It is hand beaten and has a reinforced rim making it very rigid and sturdy. There is a fine crack on the edge of the base as shown in the close up, but as it won't be used for holding liquids, it doesn’t matter. I don’t like highly polished brass so have let it patinate to a natural dark mellow finish over the years. Looks great in any settings. Near offer offer considered Plus P&P or Collection. Storage Chest Blanket Toy Box Very large and striking looking rare steel trunk with unusual corrugated construction. I have never seen this design before. This is a very rare all steel trunk from the mid Victorian period and is in fantastic condition considering it’s age. Has a few knocks and scrapes but this all ads to the great patina. I cant find the makers name but on the front the trunk has a Patent number on a brass plaque. I have been told that the trunk could have originated in America and on searching on the internet found a similar trunk for sale but a bit smaller and at a cost of $. This trunk has been scrubbed clean and given a wax polish to the protect patina gained over the years. The inside is as original and has not been touched because it has newspaper from stuck to the bottom and I thought this was interesting, this can be easily removed. Now ready to store your vast array of objet d'art. A beautiful and functional piece of furniture with great character.
