UNDERSTANDING CARE WELFARE AND Community

UNDERSTANDING CARE WELFARE AND Community

UNDERSTANDING CARE Welfare And Community IBSN, good used condition. Falmouth Area ONO Understanding care, welfare and community, a reader edited by Bill Bytheway, Vivien Bacigalupo, Joanna Bornat, Julia Johnson, Susan Spurr. It is an Open University Set Book for the K202. In good clean condition, has had notes made inside in pencil only, which have been erased, but may have left imprints behind. Care, welfare and community are three key concepts in contemporary social policy. This reader covers a wide range of topics associated with them and relevant to the delivery of care and support to adults. It includes a wide-ranging collection of articles by leading writers and researchers, some previously published, some newly commissioned. It also has first-hand accounts by users and providers of care and welfare in the community. Groups covered include people with mental health problems, homeless people, older people, people with learning difficulties and people with impairments. The focus throughout is on how policies and practice can be developed appropriately and sensitively through an understanding of current issues. The 40 chapters are grouped into four sections, each with an introduction. Five of the chapters are made up of extracts from a wide range of documents and testimonies. * Power and inequality * Difference and identity * Rights and risk *Territories and boundaries Most of the material relates to a diverse turn-of-the-century Britain, but this is set in a wider context enabling the student to explore the alternative realities of other countries and other times. Understanding Care, Welfare and Community provides an integrated, multidisciplinary overview of the many different aspects of community care. It is appropriate for students and professionals following a wide range of courses in social work, nursing, care, health, social policy, medicine, voluntary work and welfare services. It will also be a valuable resource for carers and practitioners, teachers and policy makers.

Community Design: A Team Approach to Dynamic Community

Community Design: A Team Approach to Dynamic Community

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Mehrhoff, W. Arthur / Mehrhoff, Authur W., PUBLISHER: Sage Publications (CA), Arthur Mehrhoff's Community Design represents a unique way of analyzing a community and the steps needed to help design a sustainable community. In this important contribution, Mehrhoff, through his work with the Minnesota Design Team, seeks to "help communities take control of shaping a sustainable future of their own by means of information, insight, and civic dialogue." He urges readers to rethink the shape and shaping of their communities by looking at "community" in a more holistic and multidisciplinary manner. Mehrhoff tackles such topics as defining community, understanding the history of a community, understanding the issues and problems affecting a community, examining the visual aspects of a community, and obtaining citizen opinion throughout the process of becoming a sustainable community. Small communities everywhere can replicate the process discussed in this book. Community Design is well written and thought-provoking and provides a nice blend of theory and practice. This book should be useful to all students, academics, local policy makers, and citizens who are interested in creating a common sustainable vision for their communities.

Rat sanctuary, rescue and welfare

Rat sanctuary, rescue and welfare

'Shadowrat rat rescue and sanctuary', Lowestoft, currently has space for EMERGENCY CASES ONLY. We also have more space for males than females at current, so please only call regarding females in urgent cases. We have been taking in and caring for unwanted, mistreated and abandoned rats for over 10 years now. We specialize in rats - of any age - with behavioral problems, special needs, and those 'imperfect' rats that may get turned away by larger rescues. Biters always welcome. We are also happy to give rat advice via phone or email, but please appreciate emails may take a few days for a response. Please note: We are currently only open for *emergency/urgent cases*. This means any rat whose life is in immediate danger: strays abandoned outside, those with no safe place to go, or those facing euthanasia. Please do not contact us at the moment to take in non-urgent cases such as not having time for the animal anymore, or the kids getting bored; we will unfortunately be unable to help with these situations at the present time as our limited spaces must be saved for the more needy rats. We are in Lowestoft, Suffolk. We will travel within the local area, but for rats located further afield, contact to discuss. We do not currently have any rats for re-homing, so please do not inquire about adoptions at this time. Shadowrat *will* help individual wild rats who are injured or otherwise in distress or at risk. However, please appreciate we are a small, home-run set up and do not contact us asking for help to relocate large numbers of wild rats off your property: we simply don't have the facilities to do that. Phone on 24/7. In the case of true rat emergencies, call any time day or night. Read More

Medicine and Charity Before the Welfare State

Medicine and Charity Before the Welfare State

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Barry, Jonathan / Jones, Colin, PUBLISHER: Routledge, "Medicine and Charity Before the Welfare State" offers a broad perspective on the relationship between charity and medicine from Middle Ages to the advent of welfare states in the 20th century. As America attempts to overhaul its health and welfare systems, this book deals with issues that are not only of historical significance but of current relevance as well. Medical history is analysed not just as an integral part of social history, but as offering a powerful insight into relations between donors, practitioners and patients and with the wider society. This volume emphasizes the changing balance of care' and cure' as the aim of medical charity, and shows how economic and political factors influence the varying forms of charity. Through detailed case studies, the authors highlight significant differences between various countries, and offer a critical vocabulary for grasping the issues raised.
