Beautifully decorated Lobi Waterpot

This earthenware, terracotta pot was used in the villages of the Lobi people as a vessel to keep water. As you can see in the pictures it has a lid closing the container tightly off. Both lid and pot are beautifully decorated attesting of great craftmanship.Contrary to the better known wooden figures of the Lobi, these pots were usually made by women.The pot is about 8 years in my collection and was self-collected in a village close to Gaoua, Lobiland, Burkina Faso.
