Dr Z Jaz x10 combo with power attenuator

A RARE and exciting opportunity to buy one of boutique amp maker Dr Z's very best and most sought-after amps, a Jaz x10 combo - in this case with a couple of really handy extra bits ready fitted. I'm selling this great-sounding combo, for a mate who has moved overseas and has asked me to make some space in his lock-up back here in the UK. The Jaz was recently discontinued by DR Z (apparently, non-jazz players were put off by the name), so is now becoming incredibly sought-after among those in the know, as it is a truly great bit of kit. My pal Dave paid £ for this amp a few years ago and has only gigged it a few times, so it is in immaculate condition. Thus, the quoted asking price represents something of a bargain. In addition to the luscious-looking red and black Tolex, distinctive oval speaker grille and the reliability of a truly handwired boutique design, this particular example comes fitted with Dr Z's on Z Lite power attennuator and a built-in cooling fan to keep those tubes in prime condition. I've heard quite a few Dr Z amps over the years, but to my ears, the Jaz was always the sweetest-sounding and most versatile of the entire range. It offers lovely, open clean sounds and as much dirt as any non-metal player could wish for, big, lush reverb and a remarkably full and deep tremolo circuit, which modulates the output stage, in the way some of the most sought-after Fender Tweed amps did. As such, the 2x10 combo variant here is probably the most useable of the Jaz range - I always likened it to the classic 2x10 Fender Vibroverb, but with options which mean you can use this amp anywhere...from your bedroom to a huge theatre stage. You can switch the output between 20 watts and 40 watts. Beyond that, the power attenuator means you can dial the sound down for home or studio use. Palmer PDI-06 Power Attenuator - 16 Ohm Version

This works great to take the edge of loud tube amps. It doesn't mess with the amps core tone too much and has very flexible levels of attenuation. Volume reduction has six increments from 100% to 18%. It uses a reactive load rather than a resistive one. Reactive load attenuators contain a system of capacitors and resistors that are designed to imitate the impedance curve of a speaker. In this case, it's for a 16ohm output and speaker. An additional setting mutes the speaker completely. The PDI06 then functions as a load box and absorbs the entire output power of the amplifier. It also has a bypass switch that takes the attenuator completely out of the circuit so you get the amps full volume. Great condition and comes with the original box and instruction manual.
