Design M Ingo Maurer GmbH, Munich, .Material: Ceramics, plastic and halogen lamp (max. 50 W).Measurements: 19.1 x 5.7 cmColours: Black, white and fluorescent yellowThese gorgeous little lamps were originally purchased in from the Hoogspoor company.The two lamps show some signs of wear. See close-up photos.The yellow cap of one of the fixtures has been repaired after having been broken off. See phot.Both lamps still function properly. What makes these lamps special is the touchtronic dimming system. The light can be dimmed by touching the lamp.Maurer had always been fascinated by the phenomenon "light" and was heavily influenced by Japanese lamps made of rice paper and bamboo. After having made a trip to Japan, where he found that the market had been conquered by plastic, he decided to continue that Japanese tradition himself and he relied on Japanese artisans for the production of his lamps. Maurer travelled to America in the early s and worked as a designer in New York and San Francisco. After returning, he founded studio Design M in . Several of his lamps are being included in the collections of various museums. Included in the designer collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art are: Bulb, Light Structure, Little Black Nothing en Ya Ya Ho. Maurer rebels against cheap consumer's behaviour without attention for quality and he wants to reintroduce simplicity, fixed values and humanity with his austere designs. Read More
