Touching the Earth: 46 Guided Meditations for Mindfulness

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Hanh, Thich Nhat, PUBLISHER: Parallax Press, Based on the loving kindness and compassion meditation of the Lotus Sutra, "Touching the Earth contains one of the most popular and transformative practices of Thich Nhat Hanh. Written as a poetic conversation with the Buddha, it is a step-by-step guidebook to the practice of "Beginning Anew." Thich Nhat Hanh describes it as having the capacity to put an end to obstacles brought about by wrongdoing in the past and to give our feeling of the joy of being alive a chance to return. According to many of his students who are deeply touched by this practice, it can help to renew our faith and develop our compassion as it presents an opportunity to heal our relationships through forgiveness and embrace our ancestors, parents, teachers and ourselves.

"Descartes' Error: Emotion, Reason and the Human Brain" by Antonio Damasio (Paperback)

"Descartes' Error: Emotion, Reason and the Human Brain" by Antonio Damasio (Paperback)

Completely new. In the centuries since Descartes famously proclaimed, 'I think, therefore I am,' science has often overlooked emotions as the source of a person's true being. Even modern neuroscience has tended until recently to concentrate on the cognitive aspects of brain function, disregarding emotions. This attitude began to change with the publication of Descartes' Error. Antonio Damasio challenged traditional ideas about the connection between emotions and rationality. In this wonderfully engaging book, Damasio takes the reader on a journey of scientific discovery through a series of case studies, demonstrating what many of us have long suspected: emotions are not a luxury, they are essential to rational thinking and to normal social behaviour.
