A very rare, early handwritten Torah scroll in 38 lines per page. Torah scrolls have been written for a many years exclusively in 42 lines format. Older examples with different numbers of lines exist in several museums.Size: 16 leaves of parchments, ca. 28 x 53 cm each; Total size: 28 cm x ca. 8.50 m.Age: Difficult to estimate; I guess 16th - 18 century; Definitely pre ;Clear signs of age: Some letters rewritten by an old hand, as the ink had peeled off due to long years of use. This hand-written fragment is over 350 years old and made from Deer skin. This Scroll came from Morocco, it is prized for its beauty of its soft deer parchment and its writing. The scroll has a beautiful warm Brownish Orange color, this color is due to the process used in making the scroll, this process ages to a deeper color over the centuries. Scrolls like these are extremely rare and seldom seen in synagogues due to age and is important for its rarity of the earliest examples of the Moroccan tradition of the Hebrew writings of the Bible. Small patch on the bottom edge which does not effect the importance of this fragment.
