This translation represents the first full English translation of the full body of work of what we know as the Arabian Nights. Scott based his translation on Gallard's first French translation but re-edited it with the Arab text and enlarged on those existing stories. More importantly he also translated numerous other stories, previously unknown, for the first time using manuscripts he acquired on his travels and privately. Those manuscripts are now in the collection of the Bodleian Library. The set itself has been restored already and boards/gutters have been additionally strengthened.
