The Mycenaeans c. BC

The Mycenaeans c. BC

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Grguric, Nicolas / Windrow, Martin / McBride, Angus, PUBLISHER: Osprey Books (NY), The timeless appeal of Homer's epic poem of the ancient TrojanWar, The Iliad, has meant an eduring interest in the Mycenaen age. Modern scholarship and new archaeological evidence now allows us to recontruct with reasonable confidence the appearance of this great warrior civilization, which dominated much of the eastern Mediterranean between the 16th and 12th centuries BC. We can also make deductions, from the few surviving pictorial sources, about the tactics of these armies. This absorbing text is illustrated with examples of the archaeological and pictorial evidence, and with striking colour reconstructions of light and heavy infantry and chariot warriors of the Mycenaean age.

Cyprus (Cypriot-Archaic Age BC) Bi-Chromatic (two color) juglet featuring concentric circles. Dimensions: height / width Some History By this time Cyprus was divided into a series of city-kingdoms. Around 700 BCE, the kings of Cyprus came under the rule of the Assyrian king, Sargon II. Cyprus remained under Assyrian domination until after the collapse of the Assyrian Empire around 669 BCE. Assyrian rule was lenient as long as tribute was paid, and The Cypriot kings grew rich and pleasured in exotic goods, as the royal tombs at Salamis indicate. For more information on the royal tombs at Salamis click here. Under  The Assyrians contact with the Aegean world increased. After the fall of the Assyrian Empire, Egypt grew in power, and by 570 BC Cyprus was essentially ruled by the Egyptians. Though Egyptian control only lasted for twenty-five years, Egyptian art styles, along with Ionian, had a marked influence on Cypriot sculpture as well as Archaic sculpture in general. The Persian Empire gained control of Cyprus in 545 BC.   e: FREE!
