TASCAM TEAC 144 CASSETTE RECORDER

The unit powers up and the meters light up, as can be seen in photos. The cassette door button is stuck so the door won't close. The casing of the unit is damaged and a couple of screws are missing so the casing comes away and is loose at the front. Fader nobs also missing and one of the meters plastic is cracked. AIWA AD- cassette deck

A fine example of s hifi technology. I purchased it around and after a few years of use it has been in storage. Now, as I contemplate a move I've decided it really ought to be given new opportunities. BUT it has suffered some damage from damp during its time in storage and I cannot guarantee that it will work - I no longer have any cassettes. And that is reflected in the price of course. I have cleaned it out and checked it, the corrosion appears to be restricted to the metal plate and the board behind where the i/o sockets are mounted at the back of the machine (see photos) I have resoldered the two capacitors and earth lead that are mounted on the plate. Before any serious use you will need to replace the rubber drive belts on the cassette drive - rubber bands don't last 30 years. It does power on and the VU meters swing into action. The mechanics on the cassette lifter and protective screen all work fine. And really apart from that one area the rest of the electronics appear clean (although I have only taken off the base cover) as shown on the photos. I feel that given the general condition it is very likely to work but even if only bought for spares the price is fair, but by all means make an offer if you are interested.
