Aimed at those looking to take up teaching, the RYA Sail Cruising scheme the RYA Cruising Instructor Course and assessment is the entry level for any Yachtmaster looking for a career in sailing. This 5 day course is not aimed to be a stressful test, rather a productive learning experience designed to teach you the skills needed to run consistent and well structured courses. £570 pp or £399 if you are happy to share an accommodation space The Cruising Instructor Course syllabus includes Instructional Techniques How to plan an effective course Briefing and debriefing skills Safety Personal skills Applicants must have a valid commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence and are advised to familiarise themselves with the RYA G syllabus and logbook. Your diesel engine maintenance, radar and boat handling skills must be up to scratch prior to attending this course. There will be a certain element of role playing throughout the course, where you will alternate between the role of Instructor, and Student and during the course you will be expected to give convincing demonstrations of any part of the part of the RYA Competent Crew and RYA Day Skipper syllabus including Knots Sail-handling Man overboard Mooring Pilotage by day and night International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea Basic meteorology Navigation Skippering Cruising Instructor candidates who reach the required standard will be awarded the RYA Cruising Instructor endorsement which is valid for 5 years and allows you to teach RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper Practical Courses at any RYA Training Centre. After this time, cruising instructors must either re-take the Cruising Instructor course or pass the Yachtmaster Instructor's Assessment which is organised by the RYA.
